Data Standards

Emergencies require people and organizations to rapidly share information with each other, but if information isn’t structuring in compatible ways, sharing it can become more trouble than it’s worth.  That’s why NYC:Prepared works with a variety of stakeholders in the New York City area to document data standards that enable organizations to more efficiently and effectively share information about relief, recovery and resilience.

Human Services

Our human services data standard is intended to help case managers and the people affected by Superstorm Sandy find information about human services in the New York City area. It consists of a schema that defines the information that should be collected about each service, as well as two taxonomies which categorise each service entry so they can be more easily organized and filtered.

Grants

It can be difficult for organizations participating in relief, recovery and resilience work in NYC to find grants directed at their organization. One reason is because there isn’t a common format for grants information to be announced and distributed online. We’ve created a simple standard for grant and using it to publish grant information online in a searchable database.
